Leaving the Underworld
One of the issues with Modern Christianity is the rush to go from Good Friday to Easter Sunday. We tend to gloss over the Saturday or the Harrowing of Hell. Consequently, we don’t appear to have the right language to discuss this current Underworld moment.
What is the Underworld?
Hell is another name from Sheol, Hades or the Underworld.
The Underworld is a place of forgetting. A place of ‘cold comfort’, where we can’t remember how life could be better or brighter than this.
Shadows move and we think they are real. Marauding demonic mobs randomly terrorise the inhabitants. The worms burrow into our flesh, but we are numb and do not feel their bite.
We are lost, and can’t find the way out.
Our Society has fallen into the Underworld. Truth has little objective meaning. The sky is not just blue. A mother is not a mother anymore. And love is twisted into a shadow of its former self.
Leaving Hell
We need to leave the Underworld.
We need to find the way, rediscover the truth and live a brighter life.
But where is the way? What is the truth? How do we lead a good life?
The answer is not where, what or how, but Who.
Who is the Way? Who is the Truth? Who will lead us into a real Life?
The answer is Jesus. We need to allow ourselves to have a relationship with Him.
The Harrowing
The symbolic Harrowing is round the corner. Where Christ ploughs up the ground, breaks open Hell and rescues His own. We need to place our trust in Him and be faithful.
For He has come and He is coming.
